Six Fear Itself Directors Named

NBC Orders Fear ItselfWith the writer’s strike officially over (what a relief that is, lemme tell ya), you can expect more and more massive updates like this on long-standing projects, in this case Fear Itself.

The boys at B-D managed to scrounge up not one or two, but seven directors who are slated to helm episodes of Fear Itself, the upcoming Masters of Horror reimagining that will air on NBC. Some surprise, some not so much. Check it out:

  • Stuart Gordon (From Beyond, Re-Animator)
  • Mary Haron (American Psycho)
  • Ronny Yu (Freddy Vs. Jason)
  • Brad Anderson (Transsibberean, Session 9)
  • Ernest Dickerson (Demon Knight, "The V Word")
  • Breck Eisner (Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, Sahara)
  • Of all the names there, Eisner’s is the only one that really sticks out since, to date, he’s not helmed any horror films at all. But since it’s no longer called Masters of Horror, I guess that’s not as important, eh?

Stay tuned for more Fear Itself updates soon!

    NEXT STORY

While I'm not expecting anything excellent, I'm actually looking forward to the restrictions somewhat. It means that they will each have to rely more on suspense, atmosphere, story, and character than on sheer shock value. I enjoyed many of the MoH episodes, but I think we can agree that most of them seemed way more interested in pumping as much gore and nudity onto the screen as possible..........than on creating good characters and any sort of a sense of dread. There's nothing at all wrong with gore and nudity, but it needs something to back it up otherwise it's just nothing more than a bunch of directors trying to one-up each other...........instead of actually crafting good horror tales.

Having heard that NBC is forcing major changes on this series, with the caveat that they want it to be much more in the vein of ALFRED HITCHCHOCK PRESENTS, with little to no gore or extreme content, consider me apathetic to this soon-to-be-canceled series.

Umm, you guys only have SIX names on your list. Seems you forgot Ernest Dickerson.

I think he was being that thing that the kids are doing now. I think they call it "Carsastick", or some such thing.

    These kids today!

Anyhow, I'm ambivalent on this. Since it's airing on NBC, it can reach more people and there could actually be some freedom for the directors because they won't have to rely on boobs and gore to tell the story.

The downside? There won't be any boobs or gore.

I'm not looking forward to this. I hated MOH in spite of some shining episodes.
