Silent Night on Remake Block

Silent Night, Deadly Night up for remakeAnd I thought it was weird when the announcement came down about the Faces of Death remake; actually, that is still the weirdest, but this one’s up there.

Though it has to remain firmly in the “rumor” category until someone from the studio says otherwise one way or another, the boys at Moviehole have learned from an insider that Sony Screen Gems is looking into remaking Silent Night, Deadly Night. If you’ve never seen it I don’t blame you, as it’s not very good, but I guess that’s the perfect kind of film that should be remade right? Right!

According to the ‘Hole folks, The Tripper writer Joe Harris is in talks to pen the script, which is going to be a whole new film that uses the original as a basic template to start from. Apparently they’re very aware of who easily movies like Black Christmas can be made and want to avoid that level of shitiness at all costs, concentrating on making something truly scary.

So far I like the idea. As long as they keep the “traumatized kid grows up to be homicidal Santa” concept, I’ll be there opening night. Stay tuned for more as it comes to light!
