Silent Hill Arcade?

Silent Hill arcade (click to see it bigger)Konami unveiled today that Silent Hill will be coming to Japanese arcades.

Using a translation off of Watch Impress, the Japanese website carrying the story, there are some details that can be pieced together: First off, it looks like the game is going to be similar to House of the Dead with two-player light gun based shooting (or as Google translation likes to put it cancer/gun shooting) in the world of Silent Hill, with a 5.1 surround sound setup built into the coin-op itself.

The gun has a button on the side which sounds like a context sensitive action button, and players can play as Eric or Tina as they wander amidst the rust and windmills, fighting of nurses, zombies and pyramid head (amusingly translated as lead pyramid singing).

Unfortunately, there’s no word as to whether we’ll ever see this thing outside of Japan, though judging from the graphics, which aren’t up to the quality I’d expect from the series, I wouldn’t be surprised if this doesn’t turn out to be anything special. If nothing else though, this will hopefully mean new music from Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, which would be good news however the game turns out.

You can see pictures of the coin-op and screenshots from the game at Watch Impress.

With any luck we’ll soon get some news on the Silent Hill games we know are coming to America — Silent Hill: Origins (PSP), which fell off the radar a while back, and Silent Hill 5, which has never been on the radar.
