SDCC 08: Fuller, Form & Mears Talk Friday the 13th!

This may be one of the last updates from the San Diego Comic-Con, and hopefully the best.

Platinum Dunes' remake of Friday the 13th has many horror fans on their toes. Dunes has been hit or miss for a few movies, and Jason Voorhees really doesn't need another nail in his coffin. According to Uncle Creepy, though, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form may breathe new life into the franchise.

While talking with Creepy, the two producers filled us in on some of the details we've been really curious about. First is Jason's origin. Fuller and Form let it be known that the F13 film they're making is not going to dedicate much time at all to explaining why the masked maniac is the way he is. We're likely to get a few brief scenes depicting his backstory that will only last a few seconds each. What they really want is just to get right into the killing.

Speaking of deaths, the duo stated that the number of kills in this remake will be exactly 13. Yes, 13 very violent visits from the grim reaper. Some may get cut by the MPAA, but if that happens, all the trimmed violence will reappear on the uncut DVD next year.

Derek Mears (Jason) also chimed in with a bit of a spoiler for F13's ending. Two final scenes were shot, one with Jason masked, and the other with his face visible. It's unclear which one they will choose, but we got a heads up as to what Mr. Voorhees' face will look like: a combination of his appearance in Parts 2 & 3!

Now we all have that long wait until the film's release on February 13th, 2009...
