Schumacher Wished for Girls

Schumacher not happy with Lost Boys 2I guess if I were Joel Schumacher I wouldn’t be too happy about Warner Bros. just making a sequel to one of my best movies, The Lost Boys (which we last told you about here), without listening to a word I said. Of course I’d also still be hanging my head in shame for what I did to the Batman franchise, too…

Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes recently, Schumacher expressed his frustration with Warner Home Video’s plans to go ahead with a cheapo direct-to-DVD sequel instead of using his ideas: “I told them to do ‘Lost Girls’ and not do ‘Lost Boys Sequel,'” Schumacher explained. “There is no ‘Lost Boys’ sequel. All the boys are dead. The Coreys are too old. So what would be the movie? You’d have to make up a whole new set of characters. [I told them] ‘Do gorgeous teenage biker chicks who are vampires. It’ll be great.’ But they don’t listen to me.”

I’ll be damned if the guy doesn’t have a point about both gorgeous biker chicks and the Coreys, though of course if you put those elements together like that, you do have what sounds like a great pitch for a Sci Fi Channel original. Egads.

And since we’re on the subject, be sure to check out Moviehole for comments about the possibility of a new Gremlins movie, also direct-to-DVD from Warners, and hope this crazy sequelitis comes to an end soon before they call up Dennis Quaid for another Dreamscape adventure.
