Schmidt Gets Some Bad Meat

Sales are starting up already as the 60th anniversary of Cannes rolls it’s way through history; the first horror announcement so far is ThinkFilm’s acquisition of a new horror/comedy called Bad Meat.
While the title alone should conjure images of nastiness (seriously, start conjuring), you may be surprised to learn that Wrong Turn and Alphabet Killer helmer Rob Schmidt (pictured) will be directing the film, about a group of deliquent kids sent to a military-style boot camp by their parents where apparently a crop of the titular beef causes all sorts of problems.
“I love this script and I intend to make it the scariest movie of my career.” Schmidt told Variety, “It’s a great ‘Saturday night at the movies’ movie, and with a good quotient of blood and other bodily fluids, it hits all the right horror notes.”
Should be interesting to see how the normally staight-faced director (who we just interviewed about his “Right to Die” Masters of Horror entry) handles a gross-out teen horror/comedy. Gotta love a man who can take chances, right?
