Save Gas… Drive Blood Car

Blood Car (click to see it bigger!)I think we’re all feeling some pain at the gas pump these days, but are we really ready to kill people for cheap fuel and some good gas mileage? Before any of you commie pinko tree-huggers make a “blood for oil” remark, I’m just going to cut to the chase and tell you about the new horror comedy Blood Car, which we received a heads-up about from a reader a few days back.

“In the near future gas prices have reached astronomical highs nearing $40 a gallon. One man, Archie Andrews, an environmentalist elementary school teacher, is trying to discover an alternate fuel source. While experimenting with wheat grass, Archie accidentally stumbles upon a solution. That solution turns out to be blood. HUMAN BLOOD!”

Blood Car (click to see it bigger!)From the looks of the trailer for Blood Car from first-time writer/director Alex Orr (who served as AD on Stomp! Shout! Scream!, which I reviewed for you here), it appears to be a very low budget affair molded in the same vein as Troma or even an early Peter Jackson flick. You don’t see too many movies nowadays featuring a car with a meat blender in the trunk used to grind up human bodies in order to distill the blood for the vehicle’s engine. That’s definitely a new one to me.

Also worth noting is the film’s co-star, Anna Chlumsky. Remember the girl from the My Girl movies? How long has it been? Last I heard, she had quit acting and was working as a food critic in New York City. I guess she decided to take up acting again, and what a place to start.

You can head over to the official Blood Car website right now and take a look at the film’s trailer, but if it’s taking too long there, you can see a smaller version of it on their MySpace page. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more on this one in the future.
