Good news for anyone suffering from awards show deprivation now that the Oscars are over: The nominees for the 34th Annual Saturn Awards have been announced, and it's quite a race!
Saturn Awards are handed out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, a non-profit organization founded in 1972 whose membership is open to the public. Categories include Best Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Action/Adventure/Thriller, Animated, and International Films; and among those vying for that beautiful statue you see on the right are:

There are a lot of questionable nominations (No Country garnered a few along with There Will Be Blood), but overall it's a nice representation of the genre. I'd love to join and attend the awards show -- maybe next year!

Alright, I haven't seen "There Will Be Blood" yet, but I'm pretty sure it's not a 'genre' flick. Big fan of Daniel Day and all, but does he really need to step in and grab THIS award, too? Just sayin' ...
Same goes for Eastern Promises, although I'd be much more willing to let that slide because of the Cronenberg connection.
