R.I.P. Roy Scheider

Two-time Oscar nominee Roy Scheider has passed away at the age of seventy-five at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

While doctors aren't releasing the official cause of death just yet, it has been revealed that Scheider was being treated for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cell.

Best known to fans the world over as the incomparable Police Chief Martin Brody in Spielberg's Jaws, Scheider leaves behind not only an amazing film legacy but a void in all of our hearts that won't be soon filled.

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to honor Roy and express our deepest condolences to his friends, family, and constituents.

It's truly a shame to see him go. And I agree with Buz, I'd like to think him and Bob are having a shot up there right now. Roy, from all accounts, was a hell of a guy, and I feel terrible I was never able to meet him.

Godspeed.

Thanks to Roy for bringing us his gift of acting. He was a truly skilled character actor. Well done, man. Go in peace.

The Buz's picture

I am just happy I was able to discover and enjoy his film work. He was one of the best actors out there, creating some of the most memorable characters of all time. Jaws being my all time favorite film, Chief Martin Brody is a character I have emulated my own personality after, and I owe it all to the performance of Roy Scheider. I will miss him greatly, but I am proud too say I was a fan of his, and happy he lived a long and successful life.

I like to think that some where him and Robert Shaw are sharing a drink and possibly comparing scars. That is the image that I can feel comfortable with in the end.

Rest in Peace good sir. Thank you so much for that you've inspired in me.

I second what Ringo said: I'm watching Jaws tonight. R.I.P. to a fantastic actor.
