Repo! Goes for the Oscar

Repo! songs up for Oscar!Variety reports that there are two front-runners for the Oscar nod this year, and one of them is not a teen musical that most likely makes you twitch uncontrollably at this point.

Forty-nine eligible songs are in the running for Oscar nominations, and Repo! The Genetic Opera hold three of those slots: "Chase the Morning", "Chromaggia" and "Zydrate Anatomy".

"It's huge. Repo is my passion and its audience continues to grow," director Darren Bousman commented. "Hopefully we get the nomination and people give our movie a chance! The music is amazing." With the Repo! Road Show having just completed its second leg and new theaters screening the film every week, Bousman just might get his wish.

NEXT STORY

After over a year of waiting, I finally get to see it this weekend [insert excitement here].

If the story of the origin, making of the film, lack of studio promotion and then subsequent 'sold out' success of "Repo!" were a film itself, you'd say it was over too 'Disney', too 'fairy-tale', too over-the-top and far-fetched. But the "Repo!" dream/reality continues... This is amazing news - and finger's crossed for you all!

*NOTE: If they do get the Oscar nod you can betcha bottom dollar that Lionsgate will be looking to cash in... I just hope someone has the balls to tell them to fuck off if they do!*

I'd love to see them perform Zydrate Anatomy at the Oscars.

It'd be great to see this get the nomination, and the resulting interest gives the film a wide release.

One can dream...

Well the problem with that is the Lionsgate fast tracked DVD release date. It will be available to buy before anyone at LG wakes up to their errors. In the plus column, if Repo does get the nod, this will probably assure the film new life amid the midnight movie set. The fans of this film are DIE HARD and loyal unlike anything i've seen before and with the publicity the Oascars bring, that number will grow X4, at the very least. Remeber the coverage you are seeing so far is largely the crew talking to anyone that will listen, the websites and press who get behind it and a couple of modest myspaces constantly bringing in new eyes. Imagine what will happen with global attention?
