Reeves Talks Let the Right One In Redux

Let the Right One In remake talkI know most of you who have seen Let the Right One In are concerned about the upcoming remake of it from Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves, as well you should be. But maybe it won’t be so bad? Reeves recently revealed some of his intentions for the remake to MTV’s Movie Blog which, I have to admit, makes me feel a little bit better.

First of all, the time frame (early 80’s) and snowy landscape (possibly Colorado) will remain, which is very important. But what about the actual film itself? ”The movie and the book are incredibly Swedish,” he told the site, ”yet there’s something so universal about the tale of this kid and something that in the context of an American story could be completely different while being very consistent with the original story. There’s something about it that can be an American mythic tale.”

He’s read the book and it affected him quite a bit, which also makes me feel better about his attachment to the remake, and his idea as to just what the film is helps, too. “I see the film as essentially being the fantasies of this 12-year old who’s having such a hard time. It would never be that overt where you would watch the movie and say that’s a dream, but to me that is kind of an organizing principle.”

Interesting … Hopefully, if Reeves intentions are true, he won’t be screwed over by the studio into making a cheese fest. Keep it here for “>Let the Right One In remake updates!
