Reeves Talks Cloverfield Sequel

Cloverfield sequel talkIt seems like it’s been forever since we’ve heard anything about a sequel to Cloverfield, even though the money it made during its theatrical and home video run makes it a no-brainer for the studio. Director Matt Reeves recently talked with MTV’s Movie Blog about it and gave some reasons why we’ve not seen anything yet.

”“At times it’s gone dormant and then it comes back up again,” the director told them. “There are a couple of ideas that have potential, but we haven’t quite cracked it yet.” You may recall that one of the original ideas for a sequel was a film that took place on the same night as the first film, but with new characters from a new perspective. That’s still on the table as a possibility, as is the idea of moving it over to Japan where, obviously, the inspiration for Cloverfield came from.

Reeves, who’s also working on a screenplay for Wonder Woman while prepping the remake of Let the Right One In, said directorial duties may be passed on to ”some young exciting people”, allowing him to simply produce it. Whatever the case may be, it seems inevitable that a sequel will happen; it’s just a matter of when. And as soon as we know, you’ll know!
