Jeffrey Lynch is out and Sam Raimi is now taking his place in the director’s chair for Drag Me to Hell, the first horror movie the diminutive helmer will direct for his horror production house, Ghost House Pictures.
When the project was first mentioned (“Ghost House Goes to Hell” – April 2007) Raimi had co-written the script (with brother Ivan) and was only serving as producer, but this morning Variety announced that Sam will be returning to his roots for the film, which is described as "a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse."
The budget is low (for Raimi, that is) and the horror will be fast and furious according to the brothers, so it's just like the old days. Sort of. Apparently, once he’s done with Drag Me to Hell Raimi will return to his director’s chair on high to helm one of the segments of The Hobbit, which Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are producing, so don’t expect this to become habit.
More on Raimi’s return to horror as we learn it!
