Pougkeepsie Bros Hit Rec
We’ve been trying to keep you up to date on [REC], the Spanish horror film that was directed by both Paco Plaza (Romasanta) and Juame Balaguero (Darkness) but now it all seems moot since I doubt we’ll see it in the US any time soon. Why? Because we’re remaking it!
Screen Gems have bought up the rights to the horror film, about an outbreak of rabies in Los Angeles (now we figure out what it’s about) according to Daily Variety but there’s potentially good news; they’ve brought on board John and Drew Dowdle, who are just coming off a festival run with their debut, The Poughkeepsie Tapes. MGM is releasing Tapes here in the US.
We've known that [REC] was about a reporter and her cameraman filming some very messed up violence, now we get it’s because they’re trapped inside an apartment complex where this strain of rabies breaks out and get way too much on camera.
So with [REC] on the way to remake land, there’s reason to believe we won’t be seeing the original until at leas the new one is on the way to theaters. Keep an eyeball out for our footage from the Dowdle Brothers’ Q&A after the Tribeca screening of Poughkeepsie Tapes, which will be up very soon! You can also click here for our audio interview with John Dowdle to learn more!
Make sure you're getting all this in our forums!

I had this whole plan in mind to write about what a bad idea it was to hire The Omen remake director John Moore to do anything horror related again. Then I realized that we don’t actually know what kind of horror director he is, since his Omen was almost a shot-for-shot retelling of the original. So maybe it won’t be so bad?
