Orphange to Find Home With Oscar?

In a great bit of news that I’m sure has everyone involved walking around with a perma-grin, Daily Variety reports that J.A. Bayons’s The Orphanage has been selected by Spain to be their candidate for Best Foreign Film in the upcoming Oscar race!
The film is currently playing in New York and LA with more dates opening up over the course of the next few weeks, with a full launch on December 28th. The story follows a woman who returns to the home she grew up in with the hopes of turning it into an orphanage, but soon after arriving her son Simon begins to make some very strange, non-existent friends.
The Orphanage has been winning Pan’s Labyrinth-level praise since it began it’s festival run (fitting since Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro produced it), so it being considered for the Oscar isn’t that surprising.
