No Living Clay for del Toro
The idea of enchanted/cursed clay sculptures coming to life and portraying events that have yet to happen is a kick-ass idea for a movie. With Clive Barker acting as executive producer, there's no way that plot could go to waste, right? Guess I spoke too soon...
Fango brought down the hammer again with the news that the man who was set to produce Born, Guillermo del Toro, has dropped out of the project. Guillermo explained his position, "I was only involved in that very briefly. I liked the idea, but in the course of it also being circled by Connelly and Bettany, my new production outfit Cha Cha Cha came to be formed. I knew I couldn’t juggle too many new projects together as a producer—there were more in my other company, Tequila Gang, too—so something had to get dropped. Born was one of those. I had to choose which were the more urgent ones to concentrate on."
This blow comes only a few weeks after our report that the actors who were supposedly attached to the film said nothing was set in stone ("Stillborn for Jennifer Connelly" - October 2007). So what does this project have going for it now? We'll just have to wait and see.
