New Last House Director Courted
Though we have our own wish list of who should direct the long-discussed remake of Last House on the Left (there are some directors out there with a real vision for a new version), Wes Craven is circling one man in particular to get behind the remake.
That man is Dennis Iliadis, a Grecian director who made his debut with a film about Greek prostitutes called Hardcore (pictured), according to a recent story on Shock Till You Drop. "We want somebody who is a real artist who can give it his own vision," he told the site, and apparently they believe Iliadis is the man. He also mentioned that they are aiming to make the new Last House less brutal with more focus on the story, citing the fact that the film it was originally based on, The Virgin Spring, was itself based on a medieval story, so there’s a lot of room for interpretation.
Now that Wes is all done with The Hills Have Eyes 2 (which he co-wrote with son Jonathan), he's focusing more on getting the remake going under his newly-formed Midnight Pictures label, which will see theatrical release via Rogue Pictures. He mentioned that once Last House is over, a remake of People Under the Stairs would likely be next for Midnight, something I can’t get behind at all; the original is just too damn good! Now Shocker, another Craven film in talks for a redux, that’s one that could use some work...
