New Castlevania Helmer Announced!

Sylvain White to helm CastlevaniaA while back we first reported, based on info from “inside”, that Paul WS Anderson was no longer at the helm of the film adaptation of Castlevania, the popular vampire-themed video game from Konami. Since then it’s been pretty quite on the adaptation’s status, but finally a new director has climbed on board.

In a fairly odd piece of news, Variety reports that Stomp the Yard (and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) helmer Sylvain White will direct Castlevania, which is scheduled to finally go in front of cameras later this year, shooting at locations in South Africa and Romania. White will be working from a script by Anderson, which tells of a knight who leads his men to a Gothic castle to seek refuge, only to find out that it’s ruled over by Dracula.

Anderson wrote the script with every intention of directing until the remake of Death Race 2000 just seemed too promising to pass up. White came on board because he’s a fan of the game series and told the trade he looked forward to directing a “dark, epic period movie that almost has an anime feel to it.”

So far I dig his take; we’ll find out late next year, when Rogue hopes to have Castlevania in theaters, if it was the right one.
