More details have finally come forth for the new show created by JJ Abrams ("Lost", "Alias"), "Fringe". For the longest time all we've known about it is that it deals with a detective forced to team up with a genius who's been institutionalized for the last two decades.
Finally, we know why they have to team up; Sci Fi Wire has a report up after viewing a rough cut of Abrams 2-hour premiere "Fringe" episode. Here's some official plot for you:
"When an international flight lands at Boston's Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI special agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) is called in to investigate. After her partner, special agent John Scott (Mark Valley), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), our generation's Einstein. There's only one catch: He's been institutionalized for the last 20 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son, Peter (Joshua Jackson), in to help."
I'm not happy about the inclusion of Joshua Jackson, but I'll let it slide as Abrams hasn't steered me wrong yet and coming off the high of last night's "Lost" finale, I'll let him take me anywhere. The title refers to fringe sciences: mind control, teleportation, reanimation, etc., which apparently Dunham begins to uncover practitioners of during her investigation.
"Fringe" will premiere on August 26th at 8PM EST on Fox. Check out the official "Fringe" site for more!
