Canada’s very own Maple Pictures has nabbed the rights to Bruce McDonald’s Pontypool, jumping on the bizarre zombie tale before its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, according to a report in this morning’s Variety.
The film is based on Tony Burgess’ 1998 novel Pontypool Changes Everything, about a DJ who becomes trapped when a virus spreads across Ontario, Canada that turns anyone it touches into a flesh-craving madman. The hook on this one? The virus is carried through language…
Right now only the Canadian release has been secured, but if the film is anywhere near as well received as the book has been over the past decade, I’m sure we’ll be reporting on more very soon.
