As South by Southwest rolls on in Austin, TX, the first bit of rumor surrounding future Grindhouse-related projects has begun, though this is one we can take some stock in as it comes from the mouth of Robert Rodriguez directly.
Yesterday morning Rodriguez presented his “Grindhouse 101” panel, in which he discussed the history of this very unique cinema offshoot as well as debuted the top three entries in the Grindhouse trailer contest. Of course a Q&A went down, and Cinema Blend was there for the whole thing. During the question and answer period it was revealed that there are plans in place for a direct-to-DVD movie based on the Machete trailer, which rolls between Planet Terror and Death Proof.
Though not much else was revealed, according to the author of the article Rodriguez spoke of it as if it were pretty much a done deal.
