Lost Coffin Joe Film Found!

Still from A Praga! It’s so cool to see that Coffin Joe finally has the chance to see his work get the respect it’s always deserved but the world was not quite ready to give it. Twitch Film got word today that during the preparations for a huge retrospective on his work, the raw material for an unfinished film was discovered and Jose Mojica Marins (Coffin Joe’s real name) jumped at the chance to finish it.

The film is called A Praga (aka The Plague) and was shot entirely on Super 8 back in 1980. Mojica ran out of resources to finish it so it’s sat on a shelf this whole time. With the retrospective planned, he was able to put all the raw material together, shoot additional scenes, and show it to all those who were lucky enough to attend the retrospective.

A Praga is about a young couple who accidentally take pictures of a strange old lady, whom they later discover is an evil witch. She puts a curse on them that causes some pretty nasty stuff to go down. Mojica and producer Eugenio Puppo hope to get the film blown up to 35mm in order to give it a proper festival run, likely playing with his new film Embodiment of Evil, which opens in Brazilian cinemas on July 25th.

Wow, two new Coffin Joe flicks to look forward to? It’s gonna be a good year, for sure. Look for more Embodiment of Evil info as the film gets closer to release (the teaser trailer is below). You can check out more stills from A Praga by following the like to Twitch Film above!
