Kane to Pen Historian Script
Though I hope it’ll be more exciting than the book reportedly was, I’m still not sure why Sony was so eager to buy up the movie rights to Elizabeth Kostova’s first novel, The Historian (review), but at least they’re moving forward with it relatively quickly.
Variety reports that composer/actor/singer/writer Brad Caleb Kane (pictured) has been brought in by the studio to write the screenplay for The Historian, a story that revolves around a girl’s search for her father, who is out hunting the elusive Vlad the Impaler, the feudal lord who was the inspiration for Dracula.
Red Wagon, which is producing the film, has been literally hunting day and night to find the right scribe since the rights were acquired a while back. The key, they told the trade, was to find "someone who could not only capture the visceral, sexy part of the story, but who also has the talent to make it credible." Apparently Kane is that man!
Keep it here for more on The Historian as it approaches celluloid reality.
