Joe Hill Updates on Box, Locke & More!

Author Joe Hill (“>Heart-Shaped Box) recently sat down with the folks at Fangoria to discuss some of the various horror projects his name is attached to, first and foremost his IDW comic Locke & Key, which they will be releasing a sequel to in the coming months.
Dimension has already snapped up the rights to bring Locke & Key, about a mother and her children who move into an old house where one of her kids finds a key the opens the door to “the impossible”, to the big screen. No word on the status of it, but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more soon.
Hill’s first collaboration with his father, Stephen King, has been optioned, as well (read about it “>here), but the project I’m most interested in seeing get to the big screen is Heart-Shaped Box, which Company of Wolves helmer Neil Jordan’s name has been attached to for ages. Sadly, that is no longer the case.
“My understanding is that Jordan wrote a really great script, but then he was asked to do revisions and then there was the writers’ strike,” Hill told the mag. “I know they’ve done another rewrite [since], and I couldn’t tell you whether it was Jordan who did it or someone else. But that one continues to be developed.” Hopefully something good will happen with it soon; this is a great book that deserves a great film!
Finally, Hill told Fango that one of his short stories from “>20th Century Ghosts, “Pop Art” (pictured), has been made into a 20-minute short in the UK. Thought not horror, “Pop Art” is one of the most original, touching stories I think I’ve ever read; it’s about a boy (Son of Rambow‘s Bill Milnerare) and his best friend who just so happens to be inflatable. It’s not nearly as funny as you may think, but it is an absolutely fantastic story. Hopefully we’ll have more info on when and how we can see it soon!
