It's My Party Chooses Horror
The direct-to-DVD sequel Return to House on Haunted Hill touted itself as being the first “choose your own adventure” horror movie. All well and good when you’ve got a Warner Bros.-sized budget, but we just learned about a kid who decided to do one on his own likely before Return was even discussed.
Said kid is Tony Wash, director of the upcoming 80’s homage It’s My Party & I’ll Die if I Want To. I will now pause for the usual moans and groans from our readership about the how cheesy the title is.
All done? Good. Just so you know, it’s meant to be cheesy...
It’s My Party & I’ll Die if I Want To follows Sara, a horror freak and martial artist, whose friends decide to throw her a birthday party on Halloween night in a creepy local haunted house where, years earlier, an eccentric man painted over all his windows and chopped up his family. Why it’s still sitting abandoned is anyone’s guess. Turns out the man wasn’t exactly responsible for the murders; an ancient demon was, and now said demon has jumped into one of Sara’s friends to start killing anew.
”If you can go into this movie as you would with movies like Creepshow, The Evil Dead and Night Of The Demons in mind, you will enjoy it 100%,” director Wash explained, ”If you're expecting a serious thriller, you won't get it.”
The trailer that’s up on the It’s My Party... MySpace page (and down below) certainly evokes an old-school feel and it looks like a helluva lot of fun if nothing else; something we don’t see nearly enough of from indie horror these days. The “choose your own adventure” aspect of it will kick in as soon as Sara gets to the house, allowing you to have a total of nine different endings. That will make reviewing it somewhat difficult, but I can’t deny makes the film that much more interesting.
Dig the trailer below as well as some pics from the film, and be sure to hit the It's My Party & I'll Die if I Want To MySpace page for clips and more behind-the-scenes goodies.
