Insomnifest’s Final Three Revealed!

If you haven’t noticed by now, I’ve been following Insomnifest closely (“Insomnifest Houses the Methodic” – January 2008). We’ve watched as the world’s first online-only horror film festival grew from just a couple titles into a real multi-cultural gathering of horror. Now, with a tear in my eye, I bring you the final three films of Insomnifest.
Three?! Wait … last time I said there were only two left to unmask. Sweet damn! It looks like we’ll be getting a double feature!
Yes, instead of just 12 films, Insomnifest has double billed their last entry, and you’ll hear no complaining from me. First, however, let’s look at the stand-alone film Shrouded 2.
Shrouded 2 (AKA Pocong 2) is the sequel to a film that is already on the festival’s roster (“Two More for Insomnifest” – January 2008). This time around we find “Maya and her younger sister Andin are orphans since a year back and have just started to move on with their lives. Maya is getting married to her boyfriend soon and Andin is afraid that Maya will forget about her. To patch things up with her sister, Maya decides to buy Andin her own apartment now that she’s starting college and has to take care of herself. What she doesn’t know is that the building is haunted, and that something evil is coming for Andin.”
Word is Shrouded and its follow-up are pretty successful; good to see we get a double dose of it in February when Insomnifest kicks off.
Speaking of dual helpings, the fest’s double feature looks interesting. First up we have Dara, a tale about a “beautiful woman. She’s charming, she’s sweet and she’s a great cook. Yes she is indeed everything a man could ever ask for in a woman. Dara enjoys romantic dinners and blind dates more than anything, but she has a dark secret that no one knows about and there’s a reason as to why she’s still single after all these years…”
Next is the oddly named Annoyed: Terror Translated. Even more strange is that the title of the flick doesn’t really seem to match the synopsis: a Khmer horror movie about a mute young girl named Da who’s being haunted by an evil spirit, it seems as if the only way to stop this spirit from haunting her is to find the person responsible for her death. Together with her boyfriend they search for clues that may lead them to the answer… but the answer is more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.
We should have some of the trailers up soon, but in the meantime check out the event calendar over at the film fest’s official site and get ready for February’s horror parade.
