Variety has a story this morning about a sequel to Bong Joon-Ho’s The Host that’s in the works, but it’s hard to tell if it’s still the same hands it’s been in since The Host 2’s inception. It is a Chinese/Korean co-production, but the details of its background aren’t mentioned. Curious
I can say that production company Chungeorahm is still involved, so chances are that not much has changed. Ning Hao (Crazy Stone) is now in the director’s chair, but it’s never made clear if the original concept of the movie actually being a prequel is still in place.
The plan is to start shooting early in 2009 with a release later that year, which seems like a really long time to wait for monster goodness. Of course, keeping it true to the original is going to be tough considering the political situation in China now; the first had some none-too-subtle digs on the government at the time.
Keep it here for more details as they float to the surface!
