One thing I love the most about being a fan of horror is the sense of community you get when around like-minded individuals. Sure we have our disagreements on what makes for a good horror movie, but at heart we’re all fans and more than any other genre, we’re fans who have one another’s back.
Originally conceived as a way to lift the spirits of Shaun Luu, a fan of horror and punk who was diagnosed with cancer back in 2004, the Shaun Luu Horror Fest continued on after Shaun passed away in 2005 as a benefit for the American Cancer Society. Interepid on-camera darling Heather dropped us a line with a heads-up that this years show is tomorrow (nothing like last-minute), but this film lineup might be enough to make you cancel existing plans.
35mm prints of Re-Animator, Terror Vision, Cannibal Holocaust and Salo: 120 Days of Sodom (!) will be shown as part of this year’s festival, which goes down this Saturday, June 14th at the Palace Theater in Syracuse, NY. There will also be local bands playing, tickets are cheap and it’s all for a great cause!
