Proving that Beyond the Rave wasn’t just some one-off restart for Hammer Studios, the UK-based production house has officially announced acquisition of the remake rights for Let the Right One In, which just took top honors at the Tribeca Film Festival, according to this morning’s Variety.
Working with Spitfire Productions, Hammer is looking for a writer now to adapt the screenplay for the English language, though hopefully not do much else in terms of changing anything to it, if it’s really as good as everyone’s been saying. Oddly enough, Hammer won out on a bidding war with Warner Bros., Paramount and Overture for the remake rights. I guess they really are well financed, eh?
I’ve not been following Beyond the Rave during its episodic MySpace run, but I did watch the first few episodes and was actually kind of impressed. Hopefully they’ll be approaching Let the Right One In with a good eye on what made the original work so well. Magnolia has the release rights for the original here in the U.S., so hopefully we’ll hear more about that soon as well.
