Halloween Comes Early

In a turn that honestly makes little to no sense to me at all, Dimension Films announced yesterday that they would not be releasing Rob Zombie’s Halloween redux in October, the time frame that would make more sense, but rather August.
Yeah, August. August 31st, to be specific. Apparently no one listens to me when I spout, over and over, about how horror movies just don’t do well in the summer time. Zombie’s last film, The Devil’s Rejects, suffered from poor box office because of it’s July release date, despite millions of dollars in advertising, and now Dimension is willing to risk making the same mistake, seemingly in the hopes of creating a “summer blockbuster”.
Of course, it’s all conjecture for now. Who knows, maybe Zombie’s Halloween will set a new precedent for how horror does in the summer. Maybe this film will be all it takes to get thousands of horror fans out of the beautiful weather an into a cold theater to be scared. I guess we’ll know in about 9 months…
