Gurinder Chadha Wants a Wonderful Afterlife
My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Shaun of the Dead? That's what Gurinder Chadha, the clever filmmaker behind the Indian take on Bride & Prejudice, is looking to accomplish with her jaunt into our favorite genre called It's a Wonderful Afterlife.
The story for It's a Wonderful Afterlife centers around a "British-Asian mother whose obsession to marry off her daughter comically leads to serial murder." Gurinder Chadha informed Variety that the project will mix humor and horror, "It's a comic caper very much in the tradition of classic Ealing comedies. It's a return for me to the characters and setting of 'Bend It Like Beckham' but in a different genre, namely horror, although I would say that the gore will be easy on the eye."
The project is currently casting and has a pretty decent budget of $10 million dollars with HanWay Films handling the international sales rights at this year's AMF.
