Gris Grimly's Sipping Spiders Through a StrawWe got an update today from one of our favorite “mad creators” on the horror scene: artist and budding filmmaker Gris Grimly.

First up is the availability of Sipping Spiders Through a Straw, a new collection of campfire songs “which have been altered for optimal gross-out effect by the ghoulish Kelly DiPucchio and illustrated by the Master of Creep, Gris Grimly.” Kelly is a noted children’s book author whose previous works include Bed Hogs, Dinosnores, and the upcoming How to Potty Train Your Monster. With camping season just getting under way, this sounds like a must-have addition to your gear; you can order a copy directly from Gris’ online store here.

Next are a couple of signings where you can check out Sipping Spiders and meet Gris in the flesh:

May 10th — 5:00 pm: Lewis Galleries, 290 Easy Street, #5, Simi Valley, CA 93065, 805-579-9818. They will also be displaying a few pieces of Gris’ earlier pieces of work and prints at this signing.

May 17th — 1:00-6:00 pm: Animation Book Look, 13613 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, 818-788-2357. Gris will be joining Eric Pigors and Steve Niles (and around 60 other artists/cartoonists/illustrators) at this outdoor festival.

Gris Grimly's Cannibal Flesh Riot! With regard to Gris’ uber-stylish and fun short film “Cannibal Flesh Riot!” (review coming soon), those on the West Coast have two chances to see it over the next few weeks. The first occurs at this weekend’s ZOMPIRE: Undead Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, which we told you about here. Gris wasn’t exactly sure exactly when “Cannibal Flesh Riot!” will be screening, so if you’re in the area and would like to attend, be sure to check the official ZOMPIRE website for a schedule of showings. The second also takes place in the Pacific Northwest — Seattle to be exact. “Cannibal Flesh Riot!” will be shown on Friday, May 23rd, during a rock & roll extravaganza at Slim’s Last Chance, 5606 1st Ave S. Tickets are only $7, and the doors open at 9:00 pm. The only hitch is you must be 21 or over.

Lastly, on June 7th the limited edition hardcover of Gris’ artbook Where Madness Reigns will premiere at Halloween Town, 2921 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, CA. There will only be 500 signed copies of the exclusive brown clothbound edition available to the public so try not to miss this very special event. Gris will also be selling limited edition t-shirts and silkscreen posters exclusive to this show, and there will be some never-seen-before original artwork and prints exhibited as well.

Whew! That’s a lot of Grimly! To stay in the loop on all of his upcoming appearances and sign up for “The Fiend Club,” be sure to hit the official Mad Creator Productions site.
