Green Screams, Gets Dead

Adam Green's HatchetAdam Green is having a damn good day today. First he found out that his debut film, the 80’s slasher throwback Hatchet (review) has been accepted to L.A.’s Screamfest Horror Film Festival. The 6th year for the festival is upon us, scheduled to take place October 13th-22nd at the Mann Chinese Theaters in Hollywood. More info on Screamfest is here, if you’re still ignorant.

The other bit of good news comes in the form of the announcement that he is officially attached to direct an adaptation of Rick Spears’ and Rob G.’s graphic novel, Dead West. He let the boys at B-D know the scoop before anyone else; “fans of the Dead West graphic novel can rest assured… this will be vicious and gory as all hell,” he promised. I’ve never read the book myself, but it’s gotten all sorts of great reviews from horror fans, B-D included, and tells the tale of a bounty hunter chasing down his quarry through a desert in which the Indian natives have all come back from the dead, hungry for meat. Gotta love a good zombie western!

Green’s second film, Spiral, is in the final weeks of post-production, and news of a Hatchet release will be on its way any day now. I really hope Lionsgate is able to get it; at least they’ll get the marketing right. As long as they don’t put it out in July…
