Goon Punching His Way to Theaters
Now this just makes me smile; THR got word this morning that Dark Horse, David Fincher and Blur Entertainment are joining forces to bring Eric Powell’s The Goon to the big screen as a CG-anmiated film. And damnit, I love The Goon.
For anyone who’s never read it, the Dark Horse comic follows a muscle-bound, stocky badass who fights demons, ghosts, werewolves and anything else the supernatural wants to throw at him. It’s a fun, romping adventure through a world filled with monsters, and CG is really the only way I could see it being done right.
Dark Horse is looking to develop the film in-house before handing it to a studio, which is a good way to make sure no one fucks with Powell’s vision and makes The Goon into, say, a 70’s-era jive-talking pimp or anything.
And oh yeah, David Fincher is producing, which can only mean good things. Check out the official Goon site to learn more about it!

Back when Fritz Lang released what many consider to be his masterpiece, Metropolis, in 1927, it did so badly that the investors decided to cut out about 25% of the film and re-release it. Believe it or not, it actually did better (showing producers sometimes might know what the audience wants), but the cut footage has been thought lost ever since.

All we need now is a Cal McDonald movie, and we can forgive everyone who spent money on "Prom Night".

The Goon is great, this comic is crass, perverted, funny and has exellent story arcs throughout and tons of great characters and creatures. Plus the art is really good and Eric Powell is constantly trying new things with his style. Buy it or The Goon may come and break your legs.

I honestly don't know why I haven't sought it out. I've heard enough about it and I love Powell's art. It's on the list. It's the new mission now that I've finally almost caught up with Hack/Slash.
