First Look at Proyas' Knowing

Knowing pic (click to see the whole thing!Alex Proyas is bringing down the apocalypse and just like I always suspected, Nicolas Cage is front and center. Though I never suspected he was one of the four horsemen, more of a stable boy...

Anyway, the apocalypse I refer to is the one in Proyas’ latest film, Knowing, in which Nic Cage stars as a man who is given too much intel about our future via a freaky code found in a time capsule. USA Today has the first look at one of the various destructive moments Cage’s character apparently saw coming.

Yep, the apocalypse is big with filmmakers now, as it usually is when the country is at war and things are looking pretty shitty all over. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; an apocalypse would do this planet good right about now. I just hope Nic Cage isn’t left to repopulate...

Knowing is set to open on March 20th, 2009. Keep it here for more!

...And that Hollywood hates originality...

I've been trying to sell my spec script about the assault of mutated man-eating giraffes on a big American city for years. I thought it was so original but then I had to realize with shock and horror that China Mieville and Waita Uziga beat me to it.

More of a decimation than complete obliteration. Though knowing my luck it'd be nothing but ya dudes and accountants left over...

But anyway, stop taking me so seriously! Sheesh. :D

I'm sure flies, rats and various carrion eaters would take care of the BILLIONS of dead bodies. I think you're confusing a disaster with the actual end of the world and mankind. I think what Johnny meant is that it'd do our little planet good if we humans went bye-bye. Personally I don't think it needs to be a violent end at all. If all you swine would stop breeding we could peacefully phase out. If that isn't possible I suggest we all get sterilized by fear.

"an apocalypse would do this planet good right about now."

Uh--yeah, the millions of dead bodies, misery, famine, and disease would really be the punch in the arm we need.

I love apocalyptic fiction. Like every decade, horror is reflecting our need to watch each other, and our fear of the end of the world.

Love it.

Wow, they're actually rolling cameras on this flick now? I read the script for KNOWING way back when Richard Kelly was set to direct and I remember getting my virtual ass kicked on some message board because I "spoiled" that one of the things the time capsule predicts is the end of mankind. I defended myself saying that it would be in every damn trailer and TV spot should the film ever get made. Turns out it's common knowledge now way before even that. I'm interested in what the final product will be like. Alex Proyas is immensely talented but he needs to redeem himself badly in order to watch the shit-taste of WILLY ROBOT out of my mouth.

OK, color me excited about this one. I didn't think I, Robot would be any good, but wound up liking that one too. But Nic Cage? Oh well, if Proyas can make Big Willy entertaining for 2 hours, maybe he can do the same with Cage *shudder*
