Finally some details for M. Night Shyamalan’s first R-rated film, the clunkily-titled The Happening, have cropped up online thanks to the fine folks at Fearnet.
The film is currently rolling down in Philly (big surprise there), and Fearnet learned the first solid plot details I’ve seen, and boy does it sound familiar; it’s about an airborne virus that makes people living in Philadelphia go crazy and kill one another. So basically it’s The Signal (review) without, you know, the signal.
Mark Whalberg stars as a man trying to get his family to safety, though none of the snaps they shot on set actually featured the star since most of it appears to be second unit stuff. Still, you should click here to see the rest of them, anyway, because there’s a good chance we may not see more from the set considering how guarded most Shyamalan films are. The theory is they were rolling on the first appearance of the virus in Philly when Fearnet was there.
