Exclusive Whisperer Update!
A while back we gave you all a heads up about the next film from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, who last brought us the highly-praised silent film Call of Cthulhu (review), an adaptation of the Lovecraft story The Whsiperer n Darkness (“Whisperer Next for HPLHS?” – March, 2007).
Since then all’s been quiet, but over the weekend we got a heads up from the same reader who tipped us off to the first news, “American Werewolf”, that he heard from producer Sean Branney recently. Branney was happy to give him an update on Whisperer. "We shot for about 16 hours on Saturday [the 21st],” he revealed, ”We'll start editing the teaser this afternoon."
Very good news, indeed, I can’t wait to see how this one turns out! These guys are about the only ones to get Lovecraft right with Cthulhu so I have no doubt they’ll do equally well with Whisperer. The story is narrated by a professor at Miskatonic University, who becomes embroiled in a controversy when strange things are seen floating in the river during a Vermont flood. His research leads him to the discovery of legends of a race of monsters who live in the hills who abduct anyone who comes in their territory. Then things get really weird. It was first published in Weird Tales, back in August of 1931, but those of you who are really curious can read it right here.
Stay tuned for more news on The Whisperer in Darkness as it comes down!
