Exclusive Stake Land, Cold in July Updates & New Art!

Just the other day we showed you guys some original concept art from two projects on the way from director Jim Mickle and writer/star Nick Damaci of Mulberry Street fame: Stake Land and the Joe R. Lansdale adaptation Cold in July. To follow up, we dropped Mr. Mickle a line to see what was up with both projects, and he was more than happy to give us an update as well as another piece of Cold in July art, which you can see on your right.
”Indeed, both films are still full steam ahead,” Mickle explained. ”Stake Land had an exciting burst of energy at the end of the year with Larry [Fessenden] and his team’s involvement and all looked clear to get things rolling right after the holiday break.” Some business-related issues slowed the film’s momentum, but the setbacks were temporary. ”Now things look like a go again, [and] we’re doing our best to map out a production that fits the right time and feel.”
Stake Land’s plot is still shrouded in secrecy, but the director did give us a little bit of intel on it to help whet the appetite, as it were, ”Essentially it takes place a few years from now, after a worldwide economic/political collapse, where all sorts of dark things rise to power across the country.” He pointed out that the plot for Stake Land has evolved quite a bit in the last 6 months and will likely do so even more before production begins, which is one reason why they’re keeping the plot under wraps.
The Lansdale film still has life in it, as well, he was quick to mention. ”Cold in July is also trucking along and interestingly with the exact opposite timing issues, so it’s a good balancing act to try and fit both into 2009 appropriately,” he enthused. ”They’ll be a very interesting one-two punch I think.”
