We just heard what might possibly be one of the coolest rumors to come across our virtual desk in a long time. This information comes from a very reliable source who cannot, at this point, be named, but they are telling us that a new Ghostbusters film may be happening sooner than we all think.
According to our source all four Ghostbusters -- Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson -- have agreed to return to the franchise. A few years ago that would have been downright unbelievable, but considering they all just got back into their roles for the Ghostbusters videogame, it’s more than plausible that they’d do it on-camera one more time.
Now here’s the really interesting part; though not much is known about the plot, apparently the ‘Busters will be handing over their proton packs to Seth Rogan and the crew from 40 Year Old Virgin! Some may roll their eyes at this, but think about it; these guys are doing the same thing Murray, Ramis, Ivan Reitman, John Candy and their whole crew did back in the 80’s, churning out comedy after comedy, so it makes sense they’d take over these reins as well.
Of course all of it hinges on a budget, classic Hollywood story, but hopefully there’s a studio out there smart enough to know that the fans want at least one more Ghostbusters movie (hell, if done right, possibly a new franchise) and make this sucker happen.
Keep it here for more as we learn it!

Don't take the fun out of the GB drama. It is serious business.

How about we lay off AJ and go about our business? I'm sure if he has something to say, we'll hear from him.

Geez AJ, you're pretty quiet since all the news came out. Would you like to apologize for the "publicity stunt" remark?

You were wrong.

I have a feeling this was all a publicity stunt for you guys though. Kudos. Your story made it all the way to the TV Guide Channel. Now leave the Ghostbusters 3 Rumors to well.... no one. The movie is not happening right now.

And I just found the fake moon landing set.
Submitted by Sirand on Mon, 08/04/2008 - 11:44pm.
Seriously? A publicity stunt? We've covered hundreds of movies over the last several years. We are not in need of a stunt to reaffirm or define who we are. We do this because we love this genre.
Dude, really, I can understand why you're so incensed. It's because you're passionate about Ghostbusters. It's a great film that will forever be a part of many lives including my own. Everyone wants a sequel. When we were alerted to the possibility of one, from a really reliable source, we did what it was our duty to do. We're a news site. We reported on it but clearly stated that it was a rumor. Nothing more. We never ever usually report on rumors. The reason we did so this time? Because it came from a good source, and we're passionate about the possibility of a sequel too. If anything, if this project is indeed a no-go, maybe, just maybe the powers that be will finally realize that there is interest in it and make it happen.
In the end that's all that matters anyway. Sorry if you think that's grounds to vilify us.

Ghostbusters 3: Serious Business
Submitted by Sam Hell on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 6:02pm.
Just an FYI.
This is not valid information. The cast list that appears here was part of a Fan Contest on the site ProtonCharging.com... this is part of the cast that the fans would like to see in a Ghostbusters Remake (or third movie).
You can see a fan's rendition of how the actors would look in the role: http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=6526
Here is part of the contest; http://protoncharging.com/gb/2008/05/23/id-card-contest-just-the-facts-m...
Most people would say that those from the 40 Year Old Virgin would probably be pretty good as Ghostbusters.. however, this is all fan speculation and ideas. There is no Ghostbusters movie being planned right now.. infact the Video Game is on Hiatus.. as Activision does not want to be responsible for publishing it.

We DID state it was a rumor and never claimed it to be 100% valid or factual. We don't usually post rumors here, but we felt there is enough solid info from the source on this one to justify it.
Either way, we can only hope.
Sucks about the videogame. What was Activision thinking?
Submitted by Uncle Creepy on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 9:45pm.
Well.
It's hardly a rumor if fans make it up.
Who knows about Activision.. we'll get the game from a different Publisher.
Submitted by AJ Quick on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 10:19pm.
We didn't get the rumor from a bunch of fans AJ. We love you guys but from a professional standpoint, that's not our basis for credibility.
Submitted by Uncle Creepy on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 10:27pm.
Was your sourced named "Patrick"? See: http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/22/big-ghostbusters-announcement
Perhaps I am just fuzzy on the whole "rumor" thing. But isn't a rumor generated from someone who doesn't have any connection to the thing being talked about? Otherwise it would be a fact?
I didn't come here to argue.. but we aren't buying it.

If that was where it came from, we would have happily linked to it. Again, if there wasn't something we felt to be solid or trustworthy behind the rumor, we wouldn't have run it. We all want a GB3. Let's just hope for the best.

There's two things in this world that I love: Ghostbusters and Friday the 13th. With the new Friday well on its way, this news about a new GB being handled by Apatow and Co. is music to my ears. I agree, Carell would make a great Egon, but I'd rather see them hand over the packs on screen...but let's NOT get into Extreme Ghostbusters territory, eh? PLEASE?
Submitted by Blockbuster on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 2:13am.
Who you gonna call?... Judd Apatow!

I would have no problem with this.
But there's no way it's getting made. No way.

I can actually see this working, as long as it doesn't degrade into dick and pot jokes. Would you rather see the original cast pass the torch, or have it completly remade, with a new cast in old roles? I could go for either, but it would be nice to see the real ghostbusters on screen one more time.

That crew would be perfect. Steve Carell would make a damn good Egon.
Submitted by The Buz on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 9:24pm.
I'd rather not see this, and I've been wanting Ghostbusters 3 for a long time.
I dunno. I was getting my hopes up until the mention of 'the Apatow clan', despite the fact that I love 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, etc.
Submitted by The Unknown Murderer on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 9:23pm.
I'm with you, Unknown.
The original cast = YES.
The mediocrity of Apatow's crew = NO.
Though I will admit, Steve Carell can turn the most mediocre of films into something worth watching.
Submitted by jonny_numb on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 12:48am.
Oh god ... giving this over to Ben Stiller and Farley would have probably been the death of the franchise.
If the Apatows actually focus on semi-intelligent comedy instead of sex jokes around every corner, it could work. Don't get me wrong, I love their previous films, but for a Ghostbusters feature I'd like more than cheap laughs.
Submitted by Kryten Syxx on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 9:08pm.
They tried to do this last decade, only with people like Chris Farley and Ben Stiller taking over.
HOWEVER...if this happens with the Apatow clan, it just MIGHT work.
