Exclusive: Clown is Bernsen’s Next

Corbin Bernsen will direct The Clown next! With Dead Air (pictured) currently lensing in and around Los Angeles, one wonders if this will be the last we see of Corbin Bernsen behind the camera pulling directing duties for a while. Especially considering the man is best known as a character actor, most probably assumed Dead Air was just something for him to do between acting gigs.

Such is not the case, however, as we just got word that Dead Air writer Ken Yakkel has been hired on by Bernsen’s Public Media Works to jot down a script for a film called simply The Clown for Bernsen to direct. The story involves a clown who is wronged by a fellow circus performer, a trapeze artist, and shows why there is nothing more terrifying than the tears of clown. Hey, that’d make for a good tagline!

Bernsen said the film will have a shocking, ironic twist at the end, which is interesting since Yakkel hasn’t written the actual screenplay yet … Seems the man already knows what he wants out of The Clown; he just needs someone else to write it down for him.

Yakkel told us he’s looking forward to writing the screenplay and assures us that, despite its surface similarities to The Dentist, The Clown is on a different level altogether. He also laid our fears of another S.I.C.K. to rest by saying it won’t be similar to other recent serial killer clown movies either.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it!
