Dreadtime Stories: Christopher Golden's Runaway

If you’re not familiar with the horrifically fantastical works of Christopher Golden you, my friend, are missing out.

Neither a horror author nor a fantasy novelist, Golden is one of those rare writers who can straddle both genres with ease, blending them in such a way that where one starts and the other ends is impossible to define. Through his Shadow Saga series, to Strangewood, Straight on Till Morning and, most recently, Baltimore or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire (review), just to name a few, there’s not much the man hasn’t done in his relatively short career.

We asked all the authors who did a Dreadtime Story to read a tale that they really felt was most indicative of their style as an author, and Golden hit it out of the park when he choose to do “Runaway”. It’s one of the longer of the stories we’ve have up to date, but its doubtful you’re going to notice; it’s just that good.
