Dexter to Keep Killing

New Dexter clips! In some of the best news I've heard lately, Showtime's president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt has announced that Dexter, this woman's favorite serial killer/blood-splatter expert, will keep plying his trade(s) for at least one more season. Greenblatt cited critical acclaim and viewership tallies as reasons behind the network's decision to renew the show. Production on 12 new hour-long episodes is set to begin in spring 2007 with an on-air date targeted for later in the year.

Greenblatt elaborates, "Dexter is a home run for us, both critically and in popularity. The show was launched at the height of all the broadcast networks’ fall premieres yet instantly became our #1 rated show. People seem fascinated by the moral ambiguity of Dexter."

Ah yes, the magic word: ambiguity. Characters, on TV or otherwise, just don't get much more complex than Dexter, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Michael C. Hall on the short list of Emmy nominees this year. His performance is spot on and riveting. Dexter, based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Lauren Velez, Julie Benz, and James Remar.

If you're not watching the show, get off your ass, order Showtime, and catch up via On Demand. It's well worth the extra $10 a month, and you'll also have access to Masters of Horror, another must-see Showtime original series that is already showing a lot of improvement this season.
