Del Toro Talks Upcoming Work

Guillermo del Toro talks upcoming projects!I love reading interviews with Guillermo del Toro, I really do. The man just knows his shit and has so many projects he’s juggling at once, it’s great to just read him talking about them, even if we’re all aware that most may never see the light of day. Hopefully At the Mountains of Madness is not one of those…

Quint over at AICN just sat down with the man for a quick rundown of what he’s up to and while there’s really nothing new to report, there are some clarifications made.

For example, Haters, the film first mentioned a few days back (“Del Toro Readies Haters” – December 2007) is not a new directing gig for Del Toro; rather he will be producing it, same thing with the adaptation of Deadman. I’m sure there aren’t any directors out there who wouldn’t want to have Del Toro listed as a producer on their film, so best of luck to whomever gets those directing gigs!

Speaking of which, the man also made mention that another project similar to The Orphanage, which Del Toro produced and is given a “Presented by” credit, will be announced soon. No more specifics were revealed but he told the site, ”I find that, if I can produce ten of those movies before I die, I’ll be incredibly happy and if I was doing a TV series, I would go that route. If I was doing a TV series, I would go the route of producing an entire anthology, just with first time directors. I would not call it Masters of Horror, I would call it “The Apprentices of Horror”

How I wish there was some good news regarding At the Mountains of Madness, his long in-development Lovecraft adaptation, but the fact is he’s just not sure he can find a studio with the balls to put up the kind of money that’d be needed to make it happen right. Hey, it is Christmastime, a time for miracles, so who knows what could happen in the coming days, right? Right!
