Guillermo Del Toro is a name we should all be familiar with by now. Throughout 2007 the Hellboy helmer's name seemed to crop up in more news stories than any other director, so why shouldn't he in '08?
Today the MTV Movie Blog published a very tiny bit on what Del Toro may want to direct in the future, and it turns out he's got his sights set on Frankenstein and his Monster. Sadly, the writers' strike is keeping him from doing anything more than just compiling sketches of what he wants.
The project may not see the light of day for a while, but at least this will give Del Toro plenty of time to figure out which way is best to tackle the classic novel.
How will Guillermo handle adapting Mary Shelley's work to another media? According to the filmmaker, "The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries, but I think there [are] permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way."

Kenneth Branagh come pretty close, though, even if his desire to cast the mad doctor as the hero in the end sunk his attempt.

Frankenstein hasn't been done right by anyone in years since the Karloff era. I hope Del Toro breaks the streak.

No, you implied in the title that he was making it into a miniseries, when in fact he was saying that, while that's the only way to really do the novel right, there are other avenues he wants to pursue.

Um, so what was the problem? Didn't I inculde the whole quote the first time?

It doesn't say he's making a mini-series. In fact, if you read the rest of the sentence, it pretty much says he's NOT making it a miniseries.
