Death Note Composer Back for L

L Change the World composer chosenIt’s too bad U.S. audiences haven’t gotten a chance to see the Death Note movies yet; while they’re certainly not straightforward horror movies, they are very cool manga adaptations and offer an alternative to those who are sick to death of typical “J-horror”. Hopefully the upcoming sequel L: Change the World, directed by J-horror leader Hideo Nakata, will continue the trend.

To the right you can see what appears to be the final poster for L: Change the World, which is the story of the last 23 days of the candy-loving detective who figures so prominently in the Death Note movies. With it comes the news that longtime Hideo Nakata collaborator Kenji Kawai will be composing the score for L: Change the World, according to Upcoming Film Scores.

Kawai has done seven Nakata films to date, including his groundbreaking, trend setting Ring films and the original Dark Water, and he also had scoring duties for both Death Note films, so I’m sure the sequel’s in good hands, music-wise. L: Change the World will be hitting Japanese theaters on February 9th, so look for the first reviews of it any day now!

Hopefully we’ll be getting word on a U.S. date for either this or Death Note very soon!
