Darko Gets Sequelized

Daveigh Chase returns for S. DarkoThough it’s hard to put Donnie Darko in the “horror” category, I think it’s bizarre enough to have a place in most of your hearts anyway. And when there’s a place in your heart for an original that means you don’t need to make much room to question a pointless sequel.

Thanks to reader “Scott” for pointing this out; IGN UK got word that Chris Fischer (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler) will be at the helm for S. Darko, a sequel to Richard Kelly’s debut that will pick up seven years later, following Donnie’s youngest sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase, reprising her role), on a road trip to LA during which she suffers from freaky visions.

Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star. Its unknown if anyone else from the original will take part in the sequel, but for sure Richard Kelly will have no involvement with it.

Really, if there’s one movie out there not asking for a sequel it’s Donnie Darko, but that’s never stopped anybody in Hollywood before, has it? Shooting on S. Darko is set to start up on May 18th.
