Darko Gets Sequelized

Daveigh Chase returns for S. DarkoThough it’s hard to put Donnie Darko in the “horror” category, I think it’s bizarre enough to have a place in most of your hearts anyway. And when there’s a place in your heart for an original that means you don’t need to make much room to question a pointless sequel.

Thanks to reader "Scott" for pointing this out; IGN UK got word that Chris Fischer (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler) will be at the helm for S. Darko, a sequel to Richard Kelly’s debut that will pick up seven years later, following Donnie’s youngest sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase, reprising her role), on a road trip to LA during which she suffers from freaky visions.

Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star. Its unknown if anyone else from the original will take part in the sequel, but for sure Richard Kelly will have no involvement with it.

Really, if there’s one movie out there not asking for a sequel it’s Donnie Darko, but that’s never stopped anybody in Hollywood before, has it? Shooting on S. Darko is set to start up on May 18th.

In MY sincere opinion, i think Donnie Darko is overrated.

I like movies where you dont get all the answers, but Darko barely made sense for me XP.

I Loved the cast though, i mean Jake Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell, Katherine Ross, Drew Barrymore (n_n), etc.

I might see the sequel, at least gthey got one cast member back u.u

I look forward to hearing people come in here during production "The writer working on this did (insert movie here) so it has a chance of being far superior," and then months later, "Wow what an awful movie." Hehe.

S. Darko.

Who will she talk to? A girl in a dog costume?

This is bullshit!! Hollywood sucks donkey nutz! D.Darko does not need a sequel.

There is no reason for this, the entire point of the ending of the original was to wrap things up thematically, make it so that logically a sequel (at least one that makes sense) would be impossible.

To answer the below question; the word is Richard Kelly is not involved in any capacity whatsoever.

This news makes me sad.

So... does Richard Kelly have anything to do with this project? Upon reading the headline, I assumed so, assumed that given what an absolute disaster SOUTHLAND TALES was (am I the only one rolling his eyes at the fact that there's a swell of critics trying to reclaim that pile of shit as a "misunderstood masterpiece"?)(I certainly hope not), that Kelly had simply decided to go back to the DARKO well.

I guess not, but I do kinda like that DARKO's getting sequelized, if only because Kelly strikes me as a fratboy with a bunch of half-cocked ideas that he thinks are "really deep," but are only really deep if you're stoned, and I think his work should be as bastardized as possible.
