Burton to Resurrect Frankenweenie

TimTim Burton, while out talking up his latest film Sweeney Todd, revealed to the folks at Sci Fi Wire that he’s looking forward to getting started on a full-length remake of his 1984 short "Frankenweenie", the story of a boy and his dead dog.

The touching tale told of a young boy who brings his beloved pet back from the dead and the wacky hijinks that ensue. Burton will see the new film made as another 3-D stop motion animation movie, but very low budget according to the wild-haired helmer.

"The thing that excites me about it and that will make it different is that when I look at my original drawings, there are certain things that are in those that I couldn't get in the live action when I made the film.” Burton told the site, ”So I'm quite excited to try to get a certain emotion and other characters in the new version, and I want to make it a slightly bigger story."

Production on Frankenweenie will being shortly with a 2009 release planned. Keep it here for more info as we learn it!
