Bo Barrett Launches Production Company
While I may been a bit harsh in my criticism of the indie film Quench (review), I did see a lot of promise in one of its stars, Bo Barrett (pictured), and today he sent us the news that he and some of his fellow actors have formed their own LA-based production company, Badass Haircut Productions.
Barrett has joined forces with Adam Scarimbolo, Gil Menchaca, and Bill Parks for this venture; and they already have three projects in various stages of completion that should be available for viewing in late 2009. According to Barrett Paper Cut is a pure horror film, and a yet-to-be-titled film about two brothers has many genre elements to it as well. In addition, they have two more horror offerings in the works that are slated to be released in 2010.
Along with his producing, writing, and acting duties for Badass Haircut, Barrett is also one of the leads in Richard Clark, Jr.'s Grinder (official site here), which has generated some good early buzz. A brief synopsis is as follows: Seven college students plan a weekend getaway to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. When their car breaks down, they're forced to spend the night in the small Smokey Mountain town of Chapman, the self-proclaimed "Road Kill Capital of the World," which is occupied by one lone family. The town has a deserted silence and a stench that emanates from a mysterious mill. As the students start disappearing one by one, the group begins to realize that the smell might not be the only thing rotten about the town.
We'll be keeping a close watch on both Grinder and Badass Haircut's progress over the coming months. In the meantime drop by Bo's MySpace page and wish him and his partners much success. With all the remakes, sequels, etc., that are clogging most studio schedules, it's refreshing to see these up-and-coming stars of tomorrow take matters into their own hands and create something original. That's what I call badass initiative!
