Awake Director to Pen Atlantis Rising?
This morning we’ve come one step closer to seeing Platinum Comics’ Atlantis Rising realized as a film. THR reports that Awake (DVD review) writer/director Job Harold is being courted to write the film for Dreamworks.
If you had forgotten, Atlantis Rising details our struggle with the citizens of the titular lost city whom, due to seismic disturbances, find their way to the surface and realize they like the look of land. "As a writer, Joby has an amazingly strong understanding of how to take genre seriously, which is prerequisite No. 1 for us when it comes to these kinds of movies," producer Alex Kurtzman, who it should be noted was one of the writers responsible for Michael Bay’s The Transformers, told the trade.
Aside from a questionable film with Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen, Harold is also one of the writers behind the Zack Snyder-produced Army of the Dead, which we’re hoping sees the light of day sometime soon. As for Atlantis Rising, Dreamworks envisions it as a big-budget tentpole movie akin to Aliens or The Abyss, and are eyeballing a 2011 release. We’ll keep our ears open for more so get comfortable!

You’d think a movie that stars “Will & Grace” lead Eric McCormack would have a little bit more info available about it online, but it was increasingly difficult to dig up anything on Alien Trespass, which Variety reported this morning has been picked up by Roadside Attractions for distribution.
