Atopia Nabs The District

Atopia nabs rights for The District! All right, stay with me on this one. Though it’s been called an Eastern European “South Park”, the animated comedy The District has, I think, just enough genre appeal to make it worth a mention here on Dread.

Atopia Distribution, based out of Montreal, have acquired all the North American rights to the Hungarian animated comedy The District, which has been winning over festival crowds left and right since it first started playing earlier this year. The District tells of a group of kids from the wrong side of the tracks in Budapest who decide to make money by traveling back in time, burying a whole bunch of Woolly Mammoths under the streets of future Budapest, then heading back to present time and drilling for oil. Brilliant!

Yes, it’s fucked up and just a bit out there, so I get the feeling you guys will dig on it. Head over to the MySpace page for The District to learn more about it, and be sure to check out the opening credit sequence that’s on there. It’s outtasighteous!

Check your local rep or art house theater for District screening showtimes, as it will be traveling across America and Canada starting next month!
